The VEaPLA Award is intended for an author who, within the last three years, has published a book with an exceptional response of the public and a particular impact on life in their country. The nomination for a book of the year shall be submitted by the project partners from the countries of the Eastern Partnership.

Each project partner has the right to submit nominations for the maximum of  five literary works a year. It is possible to propose a conferment of the award to an author with a citizenship in one of the countries of the Eastern Partnership with their literary works published and printed in one of the mentioned countries. Ethnicity, gender, or ideological conviction of the author shall not be an obstacle for any nominations. Nominations of literary works of any genre, published in any language, are acceptable. Samizdat publications shall not be precluded.

Short justification, providing reviews, critiques, polemics or other responses of the public life representatives (in the mass-media, movies, theatre, fine art works, web blogs etc.) form a constitutive part of the nomination. The documentations are provided by the proponent electronically. Nominated books shall become part of the stock of the VEaPLA Library of the Deapertment of East European Studies (Faculty of Arts, Charles University) and the documentation shall be stored in the electronic VEaPLA archives.

The awarded literary work is selected from the nominations by the VEaPLA jury, consisting of literary scientists, representing prominent  institutions in the V4 countries. A part of the award is also publication of a translation in one of the languages of the V4 countries. The award conferment comes with a financial prize.

Authors of the awarded books, together with their proponents, will be invited to the book awards ceremony.
